Many authors stare at me with a stunned look on their face when faced with the prospect of making new connections on social media. It can be daunting, confusing, scary even. We may think that we’re starting with nothing and that’s a scary prospect. But actually, we all already have a social circle. We just need to recreate it in a new place and grow upon that.

What would it feel like if suddenly you couldn’t see? How would you know where you were going and which way was the right way? Sure those who are blind learn to adapt to the loss of vision, but they adapt by replacing the visual cues with other ones that become, in essence, their new eyes.

Many authors think they have to do everything in social media, but cringe when they think if using _______ . (Fill in the blank with Facebook or Twitter or blogging or another social media tool.) And that keeps us away from even experimenting. But actually you just need to get active in the one (or two) venues you enjoy. Because your passion shows through!

Many authors have jumped on social media as the be-all end-all of book marketing, or they’ve stayed far away! “It’s too much!” they say. I hear ya! Social media can be SO overwhelming, or it can be useful and fun so you can get back to writing more books!
One of my favorite movies of all times — La Femme Nikita — by Luc Besson. I love her gutsyness, her stubbornness, and her fragility. I have to say I love the soundtrack too. It’s moody, a bit dangerous, and sensual, like Nikita.
