Social Media Tip for Authors #6: Share
Welcome to my Social Media for Author Tip Series, where I offer you tips to put into practice the your social media tips so that you can:
- Connect with your readers and get to know them
- Let them get to know you
- Build your network
- Create your author platform
And so you can sell more books!
Social media is: blogging, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, MySpace, other specialized online networks like yahoo groups, YouTube, etc.
Today’s Tip #6: Share
Share what?
Share yourself, your humanity, your vulnerability, a slice of your daily life?
Why?
Because we all want to connect with each other, feel each other’s humanity, belong and be loved.
Caveat: I’m not saying to over share, or give us the mundane details of your life because you have nothing else to say. I’m suggesting that you share a little bit of what makes you you! If I tell you that I went to my cardio kickboxing class today that tells you something about me (No, I didn’t go today… but I’ve gone in the past!) AND what I share with you is in line with my overall presence or brand online: that of someone who empowers herself and others to have the lives we want!
The How of Sharing
Some tips on how to share in the social media space:
- Keep your share short.
- Make it a story.
- Bring in humor.
- Share a favorite hobby, music, movie, book, activity, etc.
- Sprinkle your personal shares in between reciprocating and listening.
- Above all, have fun!
Your Intention
What is your intention when you approach social media? If it is to share, support, help and learn, that will shine through even if your efforts feel awkward or even appear awkward. Our intentions shine through our actions, I believe. Take a step forward and share yourself with us. We are all in this together!
