When a writer understands writing is a process and a business, they position themselves to improve and succeed as authors.
In the past I’ve discussed my evolving style and methods as I continue to learn the art of comics and the graphic novel. When I look at my past books I can see clearly how my drawing is changing to suit my voice. This graphic novel, Queensgate, contains mostly my hand-drawn frames, and I’d incorporated traced pictures of photographs I’d taken on my first trip to London.
If you could give yourself a present for the holidays that would improve your life, your art and your relationships with others, what would it be? For me it would the gift of confidence! Having confidence in yourself as a writer and as an artist is crucial to your success and to your very survival in what can often seem to be an indifferent world. To have confidence in yourself is to appreciate and treasure your uniqueness and singular point of view that no one else in the world has.
Who is the ‘Worst Writer in the World’? Actually, no one knows. Why? Because, there are a lot of terrible writers. And, everyone believes at one time or another, that they are a terrible writer.
Why not apply some of that sense of discovery to finding new directions in your art business? And let’s reframe those old terms into “art brain” and “business brain,” both of which involve creativity.
