Overcome Writer’s Block: Writing Prompt: Apples

Welcome to my new weekly series on writing prompts to overcome writer’s block. More prompts and tools can be found in my Amazon bestseller, Overcome Writer’s Block, available on Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords.

As Anne Lamott encourages us: Shitty first drafts welcome here.

Goal: Write for 20 minutes without stopping to get the writing moving.

Instructions: Start with this sentence.

She handed me an apple.

Keep writing. It’s okay to write nonsense. It’s okay to have misspellings or bad grammar. In fact, it’s imperative that you make a big mess and write poorly. Your goal is to write. This is especially important if you’ve been talking about writing, but haven’t been doing it.

I always say, “Writing begets writing.”

After you’ve written, comment on how this writing experience was for you, if you’d like, so we can all benefit from your experience. Thanks!

I am always surprised by what I generate after writing fast for 20 minutes. And I always feel better, like some pressure valve has been released.

Writer’s Fun Zone is produced by Beth Barany. Beth Barany helps authors write, publish and market their books so they can get their message into the hands of their readers.

She believes all authors can have successful and sustainable careers, if they’re willing to do what it takes. Are you willing to do what it takes?

Beth is a fiction author who’s learned how to market; a teacher who’s learned to sell; and a successful entrepreneur who keeps her art at the center of her work.
