Each year hordes of guidebooks are released from traditional and indie publishers alike, not to mention all of the self-published titles out there, and it can be difficult to sort through for the ones that are really worth your time. If 2013 raced by too quickly for you to catch them all, never fear—I’ve done the legwork for you. Below is my list of favorite writing-oriented guidebooks released last year.
I love to learn about the writing and publishing process. During one such workshop, I was told NOT to publish my paperback until I’d saved sufficient money to have it professionally done.
Point of view shapes the relationship among writer, characters, and reader, and it’s defined and expressed in terms of person, omniscience, narrative voice, tone, authorial distance, and reliability.
When faced with a daunting edit, don’t you wish you could just think it away? Like a magical fairy godmother your thoughts would make the edits just vanish. Poof!
It might feel a bit daunting to plan out a whole year of blog posts but if you start month by month it gets a bit easier.
Long-term, meaningful happiness is a feeling and a state of being that is experienced through the ups and downs of living life to your fullest potential. It’s about life satisfaction.
Think like Ron Burgundy and consider some non-traditional marketing methods to get your book on the radar.
The prizes and camaraderie no doubt played a part in creating such a successful experience, but their goals – just within reach but quite challenging – and the fact that we held them accountable to those goals, were the most crucial parts of creating that change.
What do all writers want? We want to leave a legacy and influence others. We want recognition. We want to get our books published. And we want to sell a zillion copies of our books. Ca-Ching!
The end of the year for many people is a time of looking back and reflecting, a time to sum things up and decide where we’ve been and where we want to go.
When we put ourselves first and honour our wishes, we give those around us the space to do the same and raise the bar!
Even though many of us share a very similar Christmas experience, we don’t all have identical ones. Every family has their quirky traditions, or ‘interesting’ relatives, or creative table plan and there’s always the unorthodox addiction to the ‘stuffing recipe’.
Every time you think of yourself as being terrible at writing. Every time you doubt yourself as a writer. Every time you are rejected by others. Every time you have a daunting task ahead of you. Take those thoughts and turn them into positive affirmations instead.
I have this awesome talent to sabotage relationships and great career opportunities just as they turn into success.
