This week it\u2019s<strong>\u00a0R for Resume<\/strong>, tips on crafting your r\u00e9sum\u00e9\u00a0in preparation for marketing your work. Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you need a <\/b><b>r\u00e9sum\u00e9 <\/b><b>and when do you use one? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Each time you apply for admission to a competition or pitch an exhibition, you are effectively applying a \u201cjob.\u201d Your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is a list of vital information about your art career designed to support your qualifications for a variety of purposes.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 when you are applying for a gallery or museum exhibit, entering a juried competition or seeking a grant or residency.<\/p>\n<p>You can post your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 on your web site and include it in your Professional Portfolio at exhibits.<\/p>\n<p><b>You actually need two <\/b><b>r\u00e9sum\u00e9s<\/b><b>: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A master version that includes everything you\u2019ve done during your art career, and the one that you will use for a retrospective.<\/li>\n<li>A tailored version that you will use for submissions; typically up to two or three pages.<b>\u00a0<!--more--><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What do you include in a <\/b><b>r\u00e9sum\u00e9 <\/b><b>and how do you present the information? <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>R\u00e9sum\u00e9s rarely include all of the categories and headings listed below, but I\u2019ve included them so that you can select those that apply. Next to each category is a description of the times to include.<\/li>\n<li>If you have an extensive r\u00e9sum\u00e9, you may modify the category to include the word \u201cSelected\u201d and choose the past 5 years or items from various years that are relevant to purpose of your submission. Select those items that will present your achievements and credentials in the best light.<\/li>\n<li>Always list most recent first; dates at far left, except Collections, Bibliography, Publications by Author.<\/li>\n<li>Include the date of the r\u00e9sum\u00e9 in your header, or in the footer if you are using letterhead.
