If you\u2019re stuck for subject matter to blog about, just take a look around and see what\u2019s going on in the world. In the last year or so there have been huge events that have captured attention of blog readers and writers alike, both nationally and internationally. Just a few examples include, the US Presidential election, Blog Action Day, 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, and International Suicide Awareness Day.<\/p>\n

Here are 2 reasons why blogging about current\u00a0big\u00a0<\/b>events is worth doing!<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>The first one is a practical one… it helps get you some readers<\/b><\/p>\n

Millions of people surf the net every day in search of reports and comment on current world events. So if you\u2019re blogging about them, someone is bound to find you!<\/p>\n

Google Trends shows that searches for \u201cOlympics Games 2012\u201d went from 93 in July to 100, its peak, in August, with only 22\/12\u00a0\u00a0in the months before and after<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These figures (in a much smaller ratio obviously \ud83d\ude42 mirror the statistics on my blog for readers of my post on that subject.<\/p>\n

Obviously you won\u2019t be interested in every single thing going on in the world, but it\u2019s worth taking a look at what is trending. Get a few hundred words down on the subject and you just might be surprised at how many will find you! Make sure to add tags to your blog post and if you\u2019re tweeting about it, find the relevant hashtag and add it to your tweet.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>The second is a personal one… as a writer it\u2019s good to learn to communicate your take on world events<\/b><\/p>\n

As you build a following and the people who read your blog and like what you have to say come back for more, they will be interested in\u00a0your take<\/i>\u00a0on things. Maybe they\u2019ll disagree with you or maybe they\u2019ll learn something they didn\u2019t know. Whatever the reaction, it encourages connection with your readers.<\/p>\n

But this is about more than just interaction. As a writer, especially if you\u2019re new to it, crafting a view of what\u2019s going on in the world is a great exercise.<\/p>\n

For a long time I was afraid to express my opinion on things. I would be half way through writing a post, then thoughts of certain individuals would pop into my head and I\u2019d think, \u201coh she would hate this. She totally disagrees with me on this subject.\u201d<\/p>\n

I would allow that thought to paralyse me and I\u2019d give up on writing the post.<\/p>\n

To help me get over this, I started an anonymous blog just so I could say all the things I wanted to say and not worry about the reaction of people. It was actually good practice for me. I was able to just… write. I was able to finish a thought process and put down my views on issues without being \u2018stalled\u2019 by my own insecurities.<\/p>\n

So take a look around and see what the world is saying! Find a subject dear to your heart and share with the world your view on a top trending topic!<\/p>\n
