You know what kind of book you want to write, right? If not, do the GMC exercise, <a title=\"Writing exercise\" href=\"http:\/\/bethbarany.com\/sparks_feb07.html\" target=\"_blank\">posted here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While that\u2019s all well and good, what do you do with the inner demons that chant:&#8230;?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019m not good enough,<\/li>\n<li>I can&#8217;t write,<\/li>\n<li>You can&#8217;t write, or<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll never be published<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Do you ignore them, squelch them under deep into your subconscious, OR, do you say,<\/h2>\n<h2>\n<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>HELLO! I see you!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I have a rebellious nature, I march to the beat of a different drummer: I say, look your negative thoughts straight in the eye, and say, <strong>\u201cIs that true?\u201d<\/strong> And watch them sputter to defend themselves.<\/p>\n<p>See, if you don\u2019t know what negative thoughts block you and get in your way, then how can you defeat them, walk around them, and otherwise ignore them?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Challenge:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Stand at the kitchen counter and set your kitchen timer for 60 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Write in list form all the negative thoughts and the emotions they trigger about why you can\u2019t write today.<\/p>\n<p>(Thank you Denise McInerney and her <strong>Improv Techniques for Writers Workshop<\/strong>, for this one.)<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Tell me how it goes!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your Mindset is Everything What to Do About Fear and Negativity Many teachings, like The Secret, and others, talk about having a positive mindset, visualizing your success and focusing on your goal.
