When I began fiction writing I wrote in my journal for an hour to get warmed up, so to speak, spill what was in my head, get focused and circle into the next scene at hand. I\u2019d voice my questions or concerns, and dialogue with characters. In this way, I made friends with my fiction writing self, who was different from my nonfiction self who I had been more familiar with up to then.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When you sit down to write, who are all your parts joining in?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For me, they often are:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Writer<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Internal critic of editor (BIG!)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Body \u2013 tired, hungry, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>To-do girl \u2013 that\u2019s what the margins are for<\/span><\/p>\n

I recognize that I\u2019m stuck with my fiction right now. I don\u2019t really believe in writer\u2019s block. I know that if spent some time writing about my concerns with my novel right now I\u2019d uncover some juicy stuff. that\u2019s probably why I\u2019m avoiding the journaling for fiction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another way I\u2019ve been using journaling is for my business. It only took me three years to come up with that tactic. When it dawned on me I felt stupid for not coming up with it sooner. You see, I thought I knew everything already. Ha! Anyway, I have started using journaling directly to ask questions and resolve issues and check in with all the parts that are involved with my business of helping aspiring authors get writing and published.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All the parts:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Idea girl\/CEO: what\u2019s the vision, what are my options?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Manager girl \u2013 who\u2019s going to do what<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Accounting and admin: better make sure these get done<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Person: fears and concerns and requests for help; also the overseer<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For your working self that isn\u2019t the writer, what are your internal voices or parts?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

What I love is for all the parts to yap, air their grievances, get everything out in the open, show myself that all these parts have the same goal \u2013 that of my business success \u2013 get everyone on the same page. So we can all work together as a team.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

You think I\u2019m crazy? Who has multiple parts that talk to each other? We all do! (IMHO \u2013 in my humble opinion)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Neuro-linguistic patterning or patterning (NLP) shows us that we have multiple parts. And I\u2019ve seen it in action, so let\u2019s be upfront and honest about it. And use all of ourselves to create what we want. Let\u2019s integrate and include all of ourselves. Usually that part of us that doesn\u2019t want a thing is just as important as the part of us that wants that thing.<\/span><\/p>\n
