And how we think is based on basic assumptions or metaphors. A classic one most humans has is, &#8220;Up is good, down is bad.&#8221; Lakoff and Johnson suggest that this metaphor is based upon the fact that we walk upright. Lakoff went off to write a lot about the &#8220;emobodied mind.&#8221; My interpretation of that is all language uses the body as its basis.<\/p>\n<p>When I think of all the reasons people want to write books, all the reasons why I have books in my life, I realized that books are many meanings. Books are metaphors or standisn for many different things for many different people.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>(I&#8217;m not kidding when I say that I woke up this morning drafting this blog post.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px; \">Here are my <strong>Metaphors of the Book<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; \">Book as Escape (or Tool of Escape)<br \/>\nBook as Sacred Object<br \/>\nBook as Talisman<br \/>\nBook as Tool<br \/>\nBook as Status Symbol<br \/>\nBook as Calling Card<br \/>\nBook as Friend<br \/>\nBook as Security Blanket<br \/>\nBook as Door Stop<br \/>\nBook as Fuel<br \/>\nBook as Renewable Resource<br \/>\nBook as Revolution<br \/>\nBook as Person<br \/>\nBook as Transformation<br \/>\nBook as Meal Ticket<br \/>\nBook as Community<br \/>\nBook as Gift<br \/>\nBook as Promise<br \/>\nBook as Adventure<br \/>\nBook as Experience<\/p>\n<p>What are your metaphors of the book?
