An excerpt:<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Ultimately the Self makes a place in the world for its whole Self where one did not exist before. This is the great work of the artist. It is monumental. It is not just about writing a book, which is a large enough task in itself, even merely in terms of pure factual organization. The work of the writer is about the rarrangement and reorganization of the inner workings of the dual mind, the reallocation of tasks and adaption to new ways of handling perceptions and work (ways that enable self-expression), it’s the gradual restructuring of both the internal world and the external one: it is the creation of an utterly new thing, a new being, a new life form. In a way, it feels like the creation of the Self — because until the Self has made a place in the outside world, it exists completely, as it were, in the dark, invisible and ineffable, silent, secret, unseen, and unknown, like a ghost, a vapor, a dream. Thus, writing appears to be truly an act of Self-creation, a task almost as great as or greater than birth, a miracle of achievement in a world of denials. In the modern world, this is even a more monumental accomplishment, since nowhere in our society is the fulfillment of this inner journey encouraged or rewarded.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
