Discipline<\/h2>\n

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this word: \u201cDiscipline.\u201d<\/p>\n

I love it because it keeps you organized.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It speaks to consistency.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s tied to results.<\/p>\n

You see the fruits of your labor sooner when you\u2019re \u201cdisciplined.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the hate part comes from how it\u2019s used.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because when people struggle with discipline, myself included, it\u2019s often labeled as laziness.<\/p>\n

And I\u2019ve made that comparison, too.<\/p>\n

When someone says they don\u2019t have time to write or work on a creative project, the immediate thought is:<\/p>\n

Well, maybe they don\u2019t actually want it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe they\u2019re just not disciplined enough.<\/p>\n

And we hear the stories all the time — writers waking up at 4 or 5 a.m. to write before the day begins.<\/p>\n

So, we know it can be done.<\/p>\n

I wonder, could I be one of those people<\/strong>, writing as the morning glow breaks through the horizon?<\/p>\n

Absolutely not.<\/p>\n

And that used to feel like a failure.<\/p>\n

The Myth of Discipline<\/h2>\n

But here\u2019s what I\u2019ve come to realize:<\/p>\n

When you are a creative founder or entrepreneur<\/strong>, discipline is rarely the problem.<\/p>\n

You are already doing a lot.<\/p>\n

You are running a business.<\/p>\n

You are managing clients.<\/p>\n

You are showing up<\/strong>, delivering, and figuring things out as you go.<\/p>\n

That is discipline.<\/p>\n

So when the writing doesn\u2019t happen, or the creative work gets pushed aside, it\u2019s not because you lack discipline.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s because of something else.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s because of the noise.<\/p>\n

The invisible noise.<\/p>\n
