And it\u2019s easy to start jotting down whatever pops into your head, including character descriptions, plot points, and even dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As you begin your novel<\/strong>, there\u2019s a strong sense of excitement and purpose.<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes, as you continue to write your novel, the words might begin to dry up, and the incredibly frustrating sensation of writer\u2019s block might creep in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you push through and beat this feeling of stagnation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The answer depends on who you are and what works best for you. There are lots of ways to beat writer\u2019s block, so let\u2019s explore a few.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Freewriting<\/h2>\n<p>You might want to try freewriting first thing, before you begin writing material that you\u2019ll actually want to keep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some authors use freewriting as a warmup<\/strong>, and for ten minutes they just ramble their thoughts onto the page.<\/p>\n<p>No need to keep your freewrites or even to read them; the idea is if you get the junk out of your head first, then the good stuff will follow.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Warm Up With A Writing Prompt<\/h2>\n<p>This follows the same philosophy as freewriting, but it\u2019s a little more structured.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Follow a prompt and write something purely for fun<\/strong>, just to get your creative juices flowing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thinkwritten.com\/365-creative-writing-prompts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This website<\/a> has some great prompts \u2013 one for every day of the year.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Look For Inspiration In Unexpected Places<\/h2>\n<p>Talk to a neighbor you don\u2019t know very well, dive into a new hobby, or research a strange topic that\u2019s unrelated to the book you\u2019re writing: any of these things could all lead to new ideas and perspectives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re stuck in the same rut<\/strong>, it might help to find new sources of inspiration to inject life into the story.<\/p>\n<h2>Take A Break<\/h2>\n<p>It might sound counterintuitive, but sometimes the best way to overcome writer\u2019s block is to just step away from the writing for a bit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doing something completely unrelated to your novel could help to clear your mind<\/strong>, like going for a walk, calling a friend, cooking a meal, watching a movie, etc.<\/p>\n<p>When you return, you might have new ideas on how to move forward.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Reading<\/h2>\n<p>This is my personal favorite remedy to cure writer&#8217;s block.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I suggest reading a novel that is similar to the one you want to write.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This can provide inspiration and motivation, and give you fresh ideas to get your thoughts down on the page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seeing another author\u2019s successful end product can help light the path to get there yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>6. Clean<\/h2>\n<p>My work space is nothing if not cluttered, but occasionally, I become convinced that I can\u2019t write another word until I tidy up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cleaning up might give you a sense of starting again<\/strong>, and could help you move forward.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Music<\/h2>\n<p>Most writers listen to music while writing. But if you\u2019re in a rut, try putting on something new.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I like to create my own playlists for each novel I write<\/strong>, and I pick songs with similar emotional levels or topics to my novel.<\/p>\n<p>Like, if my novel was a musical, the characters could sing what\u2019s on my playlist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019ve created your playlist and it\u2019s playing and you\u2019re still blocked<\/strong>, perhaps it\u2019s time to add new songs to the list. Luckily, with Prime Music and Spotify, that\u2019s easy to do.<\/p>\n<h2>8.
