Writing is a hard job and it can be even harder when you are running a household or holding down a full 9 to 5.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

So how does one have the time to write?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer to that question is easy.<\/strong> Time management.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a stay-at-home mother of three and a full-time business owner of a photography studio.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the children are at school,<\/strong> I\u2019m away doing photoshoots and editing the images thereafter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From that point I\u2019m preparing meals, helping with several projects, and getting kids in bed on time.<\/span><\/p>\n

You are probably wondering with all of this on my plate<\/strong>, how was I able to knock out three novels and find the time to write articles?<\/span><\/p>\n

Finding Time To Write: Schedule Time\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Like scheduling clients for a shoot or scheduling an after-school activity, I will schedule for at least three to four hours of writing time in the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh yeah,<\/strong> I have to schedule a time to write when the house is quiet and I\u2019m not working on editing photographs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Usually around 9 pm to 11 pm\u2014sometimes to midnight\u2014I give myself enough time each night for completing a few chapters or making sure I complete an article for a deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking Breaks\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

And like any job, I treat my writing in the same manner by taking breaks\u2014giving myself at least a couple of days so that I don\u2019t become burnt out from my passion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I do this simply because I enjoy what I do and it\u2019s important for me to stay on top of my creativity so that it doesn\u2019t become stale.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are steps to take when trying to write with a busy schedule. I started off trying out all sorts until I came up with three of my own.<\/span><\/p>\n

Steps to Finding Time To Write\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 1: Don\u2019t Quit Your Day Job or Don\u2019t Stop Being a Parent.\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

Continue on with your daily routine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I find I\u2019m most creative when I\u2019m busy doing laundry, washing dishes, or even preparing a meal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Heck, I will even gain a wonderful story in my head when I\u2019m editing images for a client.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever you\u2019re working on outside of writing, your stories will come to you while you work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Be sure to have a notepad handy or a recorder and record or jot down your ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2: Find a Time and Area That Works for You When It\u2019s Time to Write.\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

Be prepared to either buy a cheap planner or create one online.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finding time to write is essential to writers. You want to make sure nothing and no one will impede on your writing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Pencil in any available time during your busy schedule to write. It can be up to two or three hours, sometimes even 45 minutes can get you a few pages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Locating a spot to write is just as important.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need a room with a fancy desk or swivel leather chair. You can work in your bedroom, the living room, or convert a closet into an office. I know a few who had converted their carports into their very own writing offices.<\/span><\/p>\n

It sounds silly, but it does work in getting the job done, as long as the space you\u2019re writing in is quiet and free from distractions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of distractions, you would be surprised if I told you a copy of <\/span>Food & Wine<\/span><\/i> magazine<\/span><\/a>\u00a0can be a great diversion while I\u2019m writing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
