But how do we \u201cknow\u201d our audience?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often, we hopefully think that our book will have something for everyone, or our principles apply to a broad audience: dodgeball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>At best we randomly throw out social media posts<\/strong>, plans, and notifications without really targeting or specifically aiming our throws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need to focus, aim, then throw. And the easiest way to determine who the next target is, is to know who they are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the most effective way to understand your potential audience is first really understand your book and your purpose in writing it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>This applies to both fiction and non-fiction<\/strong>, so fiction writers, no getting out of this!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To Start Your Authentic Promotion, Know Your Book\u2019s Purpose\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why did you write your book?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may know or you may need to ask a few more questions to get to your ultimate purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>There can be more than one<\/strong>, but it will not be: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">my purpose is to write a best-selling book.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some questions to help you brainstorm your book\u2019s purpose, so that you can do your authentic promotions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What issues or pain do you want to heal?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What process have you mastered that you now want to share?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What kind of outreach do you want to express?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you want to enhance or establish your expertise?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you want to create a book that amplifies your business?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you have timely insights that need to be shared?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you have a singularly unique story?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you the voice for the voiceless?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have you always wanted to be a published author?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P.S. Money is not a purpose.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Authentic Promotion: What is Easy?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another way to tap into your expertise and to discover your audience is to identify what you do really well, even automatically.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Sometimes we are so good at what we do we forget that what we find easy<\/strong>, even enjoyable may well be a thorny challenge for others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you have a conversation or start helping a friend solve a problem, you probably naturally and effortlessly shift into your expert mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Without thinking much about it<\/strong>, you break down language, code, seasons, energy, or formulas in your head while all those around you are stunned into silence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions to Help You Brainstorm What\u2019s Easy for You\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is easy for you?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you want to share?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are you constantly, always, irritatingly, asked?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spend some time considering what is super easy for you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How To Find Your Audience\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is this process or insight easy for you but apparently difficult for others?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>They are your audience.<\/strong> The audience for your book and lectures can be found in the gap between your knowledge and their need to know.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Your Authentic Promotion, Tap into Your Own Inspirational Story\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To add to this collection, tap into your own story.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What inspired you to become an actor or designer or healer?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can you describe how you overcame the obstacles and tests necessary to become who you are now, and how you earned the title Expert?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you learn, the hard way, how to survive a particularly vicious dodge ball game?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What, if anything did you sacrifice to obtain the perspective you have today?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was there ever a moment of shock?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How long did it take to recover and how?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did you do it alone or did you have help?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your audience are the readers who can relate to your story, need your information and expertise, and can directly relate to your purpose.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Once you identify these audience members<\/strong> (and no, they will not be \u201ceveryone\u201d or \u201cthe whole universe\u201d) it is easier to find them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next Steps: Promote!\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you are ready, research the social channels most visited by your potential audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Once there, introduce yourself<\/strong>, engage, be interested and interesting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s much like the small talk that happens right after a lecture or book signing, only now we do all that small talk first \u2013 before the audience signs up for the class, the workshop or buys the book.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>If you are passionate about your subject<\/strong>, purpose, and the book\u2019s message, it is easier to spend time discussing, researching, and offering information about the book.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Authentic promotion focuses on giving out information, engaging people with questions and queries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a conversation expressed in the format and social channels work best for you and your readers.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does it happen all at once?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will there be experiments and failures?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh yes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But you will inch closer to the ultimate goal of not only selling your books but becoming one of the acknowledged experts in your field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will be that author, you
