That meant that I\u2019d have to once again learn a whole new system, just when I was just becoming comfortable with this one.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had just released my debut trilogy. How, where, and when should I market it? Keep marketing it? My ROI on my ads was dismal to say the least.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My reader\u2019s magnet was finally ready. I had to create a landing page. But, where? How do I do that? On my website or in the email provider (see above)?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What was the best way to advertise my new reader magnet to get folks to sign up for my newsletter? I had to increase my mailing list &#8212; everyone says so. Do I do it on Instafreebie? Bookfunnel? Other newsletters in my genre? All of them?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was in the middle of my current Work in Progress. How do I balance a full-time job around getting this novel completed? I should have had this finished a month ago and I\u2019m only half-way through! <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ack!<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had to update my website, especially with the new reader magnet. Maybe I should<br \/>\nchange the image. What should it look like? Are the tabs in the right place? Was my homepage effective?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>You get the picture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s only a small snippet of what was rattling around my brain that day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All I knew was\u2026 I couldn\u2019t do anything. I was completely immobilized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The mere thought of changing email providers made me numb.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researching the best way to promote my reader magnet made me gag.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t get me started on figuring out how to revamp my site.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My brain and chest hurt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While sitting there like Elsa from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2zqsKtY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frozen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, I began to hyperventilate. I was absolutely paralyzed and couldn\u2019t make a decision\u2026 any decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>How in the hell did I end up like this?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Writer Burnout\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sad-at-computer.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-22112\" title=\"Writer Burnout - Sad at computer\" src=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sad-at-computer-300x233.png\" alt=\"Writer Burnout - Sad at computer\" width=\"200\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sad-at-computer-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/sad-at-computer.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Sometimes, when you internally scream your pain to the universe, you get an answer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes I\u2019m smart enough to recognize help when it slaps me upside the head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>I\u2019d only just begun listening to writer\u2019s podcasts in the morning while I got ready for work<\/strong> (i.e. Self-Publishing Formula by Mark Dawson and The Creative Penn by Joanna Penn) and I\u2019d run out of new material.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, a couple of days after my \u201cindecision meltdown\u201d episode, I read on one of my reader groups about a speaker at RWA by the name of Becca Syme. Who discussed author burnout.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart pounding, this sounded like something I wanted\u2026 no, needed to hear.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Writer Burnout (4)<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I started with her episode <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oI-qY3yGcNM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWriter Burnout (4)\u201d<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in her QuitCast and immediately got blown away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22111\" title=\"Burnout\" src=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"Burnout\" width=\"200\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout-768x583.jpg 768w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout-1024x777.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout-640x486.jpg 640w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/burnout.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>It alarmed me to hear Becca state that when she\u2019d gone to conferences in the past<\/strong>, she\u2019d seen random cases of people burning out. But this year, the sheer volume of people talking about burnout felt abnormal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She stated people were worried they didn\u2019t have what it took. They couldn\u2019t keep up the pace. They couldn\u2019t continue to do whatever it is that they had to do to \u201csucceed\u201d or up the pace to become \u201csuccessful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They didn\u2019t know what to choose, or they had decision fatigue that caused them to hit this fever pitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>That sounded awfully familiar. It gave me chills.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She continued, that it appeared to be an epidemic in the writing community and she was quite alarmed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The more she explained why she was saying what she was saying, the more my stomach dropped.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wasn\u2019t alone. The overwhelmed feeling squeezing my chest was not just happening to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burn Out Faster\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She explained how there are outliers in our industry who operate and thrive at a very high level of production. These folks can constantly push five books or more a year; run a podcast\/course, lead in some outside endeavor, all the while constantly use social media as their virtual marketing habitat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>If we try to mimic those rare individuals<\/strong>, we\u2019ll have a tendency to burn out faster, and it will take us longer to \u201cdig\u201d ourselves out of the rut we\u2019ve created.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Writer Community\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Keep in mind, as a community of writers<\/strong>, what we do <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impacts every one of us<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all rely on each other.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are a part of a system in the same way that our writing lives are a system, or our networks or communities are systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>When one part of the system is faltering<\/strong>, the whole system will eventually not run at optimal peak speed or ability. It might fail because we\u2019ve all hit burnout to some degree or another.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think of what would happen to us if all the groups\/ networks\/ friends\/ collaborators\/ organizations as writers we rely on were to experience burnout at the same time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our precious community would suffer, and it would take a miracle to bring us all back to optimal performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suffering from Writer Burnout?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could you be suffering from burnout?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stress.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The American Institute of Stress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the number one leading cause of stress is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job Pressure<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Take a few moments to ask yourself a couple of questions:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does burnout really look like?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happens if I can\u2019t stop the inertia of my life, and I hit the bottom?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How do I know if that\u2019s happened?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And how do I get out of it?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If any of your answers concern you, take a few steps back and reevaluate what\u2019s going on in your\u00a0life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22113\" title=\"Anxious face\" src=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face-209x300.jpg\" alt=\"Anxious face\" width=\"200\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face-209x300.jpg 209w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face-768x1103.jpg 768w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face-713x1024.jpg 713w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face-640x919.jpg 640w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/anxious-face.jpg 891w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Search for some answers.
