***<\/p>\n

Well, I did it.<\/strong> I launched my debut novel in October of 2018<\/a>.\u00a0 My lifelong dream of becoming a published author has finally been realized.<\/p>\n

How did I do it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Softly\u2026slowly and with little fanfare. I wanted to cuddle my book like a baby \u2018cause the very thought of letting it go terrified me. What if no one liked it? Or *gasp* what if no one wanted to read<\/em> it?<\/p>\n

No\u2026no, that couldn\u2019t happen.<\/strong> I had only to let people know it was out there and they\u2019d want to read it.<\/p>\n

So the first thing I did was email all of my contacts, post it on my personal Facebook, and tell everyone at work. I asked several folks to take my book out for a \u201ctest\u201d run (hey, it\u2019s only .99\u00a2!) and see if my automatic emails worked and that it downloaded correctly. By the way, the fellow employee I told you about was the first one on Apple to get my novel<\/a>.\u00a0 It worked great and she\u2019s enjoying the narrative!<\/p>\n

How did it go?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Within the first week I had sold 26 copies \u2013 25 on Amazon and the one on Apple. I was jazzed to see one was sold in Canada and the UK! *Gulp* Yesterday someone signed up for my mailing list I didn\u2019t recognized. Now my baby was swimming away into unknown waters\u2026<\/p>\n

Then I worked with Beth on the<\/strong> Facebook party<\/a>\u00a0 she hosted from the \u201cWriters Fun Zone.\u201d It was the first time I tried that venue and I admit I was nervous. When the day arrived, and it was my turn, just my luck my computer froze as I tried to copy and paste my posts. A big \u201cthank you\u201d for everyone\u2019s patience. While I\u2019m sure I got no new \u201cfans,\u201d I gained the experience I needed in this profession.<\/p>\n

When Beth and I were going over what promotions to do next, I\u2019m remembered what my main goal was: To get my name out there to increase my mailing list and build my fan base.<\/p>\n

To do this, we discussed several options. Here are some things I\u2019m working on:<\/p>\n

AMS ads:<\/strong> While Beth hadn\u2019t work with Amazon and their ad generators, I took it upon myself to do research and discovered they have \u201csponsored\u201d and \u201cdisplay\u201d ads. I\u2019m doing the sponsored ads for a two-week stretch. I started the campaign on 10\/28 with a daily budget of $10.00. So far, I\u2019ve spent $25.86 with direct sales at 3. But, I\u2019ve sold 35 books on Amazon since I launched on 10\/13. I\u2019ll let the campaign run a full week before I decide to either change or cancel it.<\/p>\n

LoveRomanceReads<\/strong>: A friend of Beth\u2019s sponsors this site<\/a>\u00a0and she recommended I try them. While authors can post their books for free \u2013 for $35.00 you can have your novel sponsored for 30 days on their front page as \u201cJust Released\u201d or \u201cOn sale.\u201d Using \u201cCanva,\u201d I created an ad to put on their front page announcing my 0.99\u00a2 sell.<\/p>\n

Goodreads:<\/strong> I\u2019ve been a member of Goodreads<\/a>\u00a0 for a couple of years as a reader (read 100 books last year!) and joined as an author (you have to be published to do this.) This is new for me, but I plan on placing an ad there soon.<\/p>\n

MeWe:<\/strong> On Beth\u2019s advice, she suggested I follow a fellow sci-fi romance writer (Lea Kirk)<\/a>\u00a0 and noticed she was a member of this new social media. I haven\u2019t worked on this yet, but I signed up and plan on looking around.<\/p>\n

Amazon Author Page<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I completed my Amazon Author Page so folks can \u201cfollow\u201d me.<\/p>\n

Facebook Page:<\/strong> I created an offshoot of my personal Facebook profile and created Keri Kruspe Author on the site<\/a>.\u00a0 I\u2019ve joined several FB groups that cater to romance writers and specifically sci-fi romance writers. (There are more out there than I thought!) I\u2019ve announced in their groups about my debut novel. Haven\u2019t decided if I will advertise on Facebook or not.<\/p>\n

Yahoo Groups:<\/strong> I joined several writers groups in Yahoo in my genre. Announced my launch there.<\/p>\n

Blog Tour:<\/strong> Beth couldn\u2019t express enough how important a blog tour was in getting my name out there. Since I\u2019m \u201csocial media challenged,\u201d I\u2019m looking into an online company to help me with this. There are several out there and I\u2019m researching who might be best fit for me. Beth stressed while my ROI may not be great, the thousands of \u201ceyeballs\u201d seeing my stuff is well worth getting out there this way. (Editor\u2019s note: We do teach authors how to run their own blog tours here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Twitter:<\/strong> I opened an author Twitter account \u2013 but have done nothing with it yet. It\u2019s on the back burner for now.<\/p>\n

So\u2026what\u2019s next?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I will continue to work on my marketing strategy. My goal is to spend four hours a week on marketing, with a hard goal of getting 100 names for my mailing list within 30 days. I have 14 right now \u2013 only 86 more to go!<\/p>\n

I will also continue getting the next two books in my trilogy ready to publish.<\/strong> While both have been written, the second one must be at the editor\u2019s final review the week of the seventh. I\u2019m hoping D\u2019zia\u2019s Dilemma will be ready to launch by the end of the year. The third book, Ki\u2019s Redemption should be ready for my beta readers by the first of December to be on target for a March 2019 release.<\/p>\n

Whew! So, to recap \u2013 my goal is 100 new signups within the next 30 days. With everything coming together at this time, I\u2019m concluding this phase of \u201cAdventures Into Publishing\u201d \u2013 but never fear!
