I have a good life. But when I read and escape I actually find myself again, in a renewed way. I come back to my life and my responsibilities with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Authors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Elizabeth Moon's site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethmoon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Elizabeth Moon<\/a> writes smart science fiction featuring most often women space captains. Ms. Moon was one of the first women in the Marine Corps in the 1960s and her military knowledge flows through her stories like a second skin. I love reading about women facing leadership challenges&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>My current favorite of hers is <a title=\"Once A Hero by Elizabeth Moon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Once-Hero-Elizabeth-Moon\/dp\/0671878719\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Once a Hero<\/em><\/a> in The Serrano Legacy series. I also loved the <a title=\"Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elizabethmoon.com\/books-vattawar.html\" target=\"_blank\">Vatta&#8217;s War series<\/a>, and the stand-alone, <a title=\"Remnant Population by Elizabeth Moon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Remnant-Population-Elizabeth-Moon\/dp\/034546219X\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Remnant Population<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Sharon Shinn's site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sharonshinn.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sharon Shinn<\/a> writes fantasy and science fiction, for young adults and adults. The first book I read of hers is still my favorite: <a title=\"Mystic &amp; Rider by Sharon Shinn\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mystic-Rider-Twelve-Houses-Book\/dp\/0441013031\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Mystic &amp; Rider<\/em><\/a>, the first in the <a title=\"Twelve House series by Sharon Shinn\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sharonshinn.net\/HTML\/twelvehouse.html\" target=\"_blank\">Twelve House series<\/a>. A hardened warrior devoted only to his king and a mystic shunned by her family but trusted by the king must roust out those that scheme in secret against the kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Her heroines are complex, the love stories unique and varied in each of her books, and her worlds feel so full and real.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Picture-21.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2011\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 6px;\" title=\"Angels of Darkness anthology\" src=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Picture-21.png\" alt=\"Angels of Darkness anthology\" width=\"161\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Picture-21.png 268w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Picture-21-201x300.png 201w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 161px) 100vw, 161px\" \/><\/a>And thanks for <a title=\"Book reviewer Attack of the Book\" href=\"http:\/\/attackofthebook.com\" target=\"_blank\">Attack of the Book<\/a> for sharing about an upcoming anthology that Sharon Shinn will be in, <a title=\"Dark Angels anthology with Sharon Shinn, Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Meljean Brook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sharonshinn.net\/HTML\/twelvehouse.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Angels of Darkness<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The best thing about these two authors is that they have so many books I haven&#8217;t read yet.
