Why do I need them? I am so creative; I can sit down and just write.<\/p>\n<p>Ah! But it wasn&#8217;t always this way.<\/p>\n<p>For the longest time, I couldn&#8217;t write toward an end, a completion point.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn&#8217;t finish writing a book; I could barely write the start of one. I wasn&#8217;t always able to move forward hardly at all.<\/p>\n<p>It took me many years to develop the raw discipline I needed to stay the course. Anything you want. Yep!<\/p>\n<p>Get your notebook and pen ready, or open up a fresh word document.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timed Writing<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Set your timer for 20 minutes and write! <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><em>Remember<\/em>, in your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">timed writing NO EDITNG!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> Tell your inner critic, \u201cPlease\u00a0go to lunch, or to the library, or go shopping.\u00a0 You can come back later.\u201d Just start writing. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">To paraphrase one of my favorite writing mentors, Anne Lamott, \u201cYou have my permission to write a sh&amp;*^tty first draft.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ring! <\/em>Pencils up! Stop!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>How was that?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>One of <a title=\"MarkBrenwall.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.markbrenwall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my clients<\/a> recently told me that doing the 20 minute timed writing changed his life!<\/p>\n<p>Basically, he said he said he was surprised how much could get done in 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>And he was already a very accomplished guy!<\/p>\n<p>He said he got a sense of accomplishment from writing a complete blog post just writing from what he knew instead of thinking he had to do research &#8212; well, he was as pleased as punch!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>What can you accomplish in 20 minute timed writing?
