I have this passion for telling stories in this form, and I’ve felt a bit selfish that I wanted to devote all this time, attention, and resources to it.<\/p>\n Recently I watched the wonderful Ursula Le Guin video (posted on my Facebook page)<\/a>, where she spoke about the job we do as novelists. She said something to the effect of “we dream of the possibilities.” (And a lot more… “…writers who remember freedom…” “…resistance and change often begins with art…”)<\/p>\n I realized that we novelist write about ways life could be, about how to overcome seemingly intractable problems. We write the tales of surmounting.
