People get really excited when they hear your pitch?!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Congratulations either way!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re in the mix, working to hook your reader.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a hook?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Prickily-Hooks-by-Derek-Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-drop-shadow.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12482 size-medium\" title=\"Prickily Hooks by Derek Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-cropped-drop-shadow\" src=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Prickily-Hooks-by-Derek-Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-drop-shadow-300x296.jpg\" alt=\"Prickily Hooks by Derek Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-cropped-drop-shadow\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Prickily-Hooks-by-Derek-Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-drop-shadow-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Prickily-Hooks-by-Derek-Gavey-flickr-cc-license.jpg-drop-shadow.jpg 463w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Yes, it is what you catch fish with.<\/p>\n<p>In marketing, it&#8217;s how you draw people in.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The FIRST rule of sales is &#8220;generate curiosity,&#8221; and in my opinion that is what <em>good<\/em> marketing is designed to do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You don&#8217;t need to say it all, nor should you.<\/p>\n<p>You want to say just enough to get them to metaphorically or physically step closer to you.<\/p>\n<h3>How do you do this?<\/h3>\n<p>You use a hook, or a pitch.<\/p>\n<p>I thought it would be fun to start running contests here at Writer&#8217;s Fun Zone and focus on hooking your reader.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s how this first contest will work. (And if we get lots of interest and participation, I&#8217;ll run them monthly.)<\/p>\n<h1>RULES<\/h1>\n<p>Craft your pitch for your published or unpublished novel and post it in the comments below.<\/p>\n<p>Use this article Ezra wrote as a guide, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/writersfunzone.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/25\/how-to-write-the-perfect-pitch-to-sell-your-novel-in-person\/\" target=\"_blank\">How to Write the Perfect Pitch to Sell Your Novel In Person<\/a>.&#8221; It has examples and step-by-step guidelines on to craft your perfect pitch.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can post any one of the six pitches, but <strong>you can only enter one pitch per book.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Post your pitch in the <strong>comments.<\/strong> Emailed\u00a0pitches don&#8217;t count.
