Active in several online social networks, Beth has sold books and gotten new clients from her interactions on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. But it wasn\u2019t always this way\u2026 <\/p>\n

*** Beth stepping in now\u2026<\/p>\n

I actually resented all the time social networking seemed to require, and I didn\u2019t know what to say or how to say it. Then one day my business coach bonked me over the head with the statement, \u201cMarketing is more important than the content of your book, Beth.\u201d<\/p>\n

My jaw dropped. I didn\u2019t want to believe him.<\/p>\n

In fact, I argued with him, for a few minutes.<\/p>\n

Until he asked me, \u201cDo you want to make sales or not?\u201d<\/p>\n

I realized that this man probably knew what he was talking about. I mean, he is an executive coach to Silicon Valley corporate executives and also has an art and theatre background.<\/p>\n

I decided to try his advice, like new set of clothes, and see if I could make my online marketing and networking work.<\/p>\n

So, I sought out some expert advice, went to lectures, read some books, blogs and tutorials, and then dove into the social networking world. I always learn by doing\u2026 and doing I did!<\/p>\n

I knew things were working for me when — there I was \u2013 playing on Twitter over the Thanksgiving holiday, setting up a new client appointment, and getting someone excited about my book.<\/p>\n

Since then, social networking connections have accelerated in quantity, and most importantly, in quality. I was having more conversations with more people that led to more business.<\/p>\n

Today I have nearly 3,000 Facebook connections, almost 2,000 on Twitter, over 600 on LinkedIn, and over 1,700 on my personal and newsletter lists.<\/p>\n

The reason I bring this is up is not to impress you with the numbers — they\u2019re relative and will be different for each of you depending on your circumstances. This is to show you that if a previous reluctant online user like me can master these tools to have greater visibility and more sales, so can you.<\/p>\n
