For ages I\u2019ve been thinking about putting together a writing CV.<\/strong> More so for myself than anyone else. Just to see at a glance the different things I\u2019ve achieved, or even attempted.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t really sure what to do, so I just started making a list. Places I\u2019ve written for, events I\u2019ve read at, my published stuff, training I been involved in as both participant and facilitator. Connections I\u2019ve made etc<\/p>\n

You know when I put it all together it didn\u2019t look too shabby \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/p>\n

My book is not a best-seller by any means, I don\u2019t have hundreds of thousands of followers on blogs or Twitter, and I am not adorned with prizes \u2013 although I haven\u2019t done too badly this year \ud83d\ude42 In the great scheme of things I\u2019m a teeny weeny fish in a world awash with writing.<\/p>\n

What I have done this year is taken more opportunities.<\/strong> Last year I would have said \u2018no\u2019 a lot. Too embarrassed to put myself forward, worried that people might think. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ve mentioned here before, the only one giving negative vibes is me; others are always really supportive.<\/p>\n

So this year I ignored the inner voices and entered competitions, submitted to journals, wrote stories I didn\u2019t know how to write, and agreed to do things I wasn\u2019t 100% sure I could do. I\u2019m not an advocate of \u2018fake it til you make it\u2019; but I took the advice of Richard Branson, who says,\u00a0\u201cIf somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes \u2013 then learn how to do it later!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Some things worked better than others. I learned a whole lot about myself, my strengths, my weaknesses, things that energise me and things that drain me.<\/p>\n

When I started writing fiction just over 2 years ago I never imagined I\u2019d have any reason to put a \u2018writing resum\u00e9\u2019 together.<\/strong> There are some changes coming in the near future (more on that next month), so I collected all my experience, opportunities and successes and put my CV together.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d encourage you to make a list of all you\u2019ve done.<\/strong> Have you published on a website? Written a guest blog post? Did you speak a writer\u2019s meeting? Read at a literary event? Have you helped with events at the library? Have you won an award? Have you been published in a journal, newspaper or magazine?<\/p>\n

Maybe when you do put it together, it does look a bit thin. Well then it\u2019s time to fatten it up. So what can you do? Here are some suggestions\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n
