Don’t Start Your Story with a Dream! In real life, dreams have their own logic. They jump around, juxtapose images, fade and intensify, ignore transitions.
Poor or careless writing can sink a relationship as quickly as it can promote it. If you fire off a tone-deaf email, you’ll be explaining yourself for days.
So this year I ignored the inner voices and entered competitions, submitted to journals, wrote stories I didn’t know how to write, and agreed to do things I wasn’t 100% sure I could do.

Many authors don’t understand how to use Twitter to spread the word about their books. They think Twitter is a waste of time. I really don’t think Twitter is a waste of time, and I’ll tell you why.
In addition to a website, newsletter, and a blog, authors can use social networking tools to connect with friends, make new friends, interact with readers, and gain new readers. In my previous Promotion Posse article (”Heart of the Bay,” January 2009), I wrote about how authors can use Facebook to network and market.
